Donnal Poppe is California native who has lived in Argentina, Bolivia and Montana. She lived and traveled in Mexico and South America for years and made two trips driving from Los Angeles to Southern Argentina to study at Pre-Columbian
ancestor sites.
Living and traveling has influenced her work. While camping she observed people carrying large bundles and pots on their heads. As her drawings evolved the vessel came to replace the heads. Thus the Vessel Heads aka Pot Heads were created illustrating portraits of her family and local in their lives. The Vessel Head represent many of us who consider ourselves to be sentient and sensitive to perception and impression. Yet many of us lack clear concise thought at times.
